Our verdict
The Koda 2 Max is the specialist host’s choice in the Koda family. Two temperature zones and room for two 12-inch pizzas give it a level of flexibility the smaller ovens cannot match, but its 43kg weight and 800 × 722mm footprint demand a permanent outdoor station.
Capacity
The Ooni Koda 2 Max accommodates pizzas up to 20 inches. The oven measures 800 × 722 × 428mm, so it needs a generously sized, stable work surface.
That extra room is a genuine advantage. You can make a large centrepiece pizza, but we think the more useful benefit is having space around a standard 12-inch pizza when launching and turning it.
If one large pizza is enough, the Ooni Koda 2 Pro review covers the smaller 18-inch option.
Space and handling
The Ooni Koda 2 Max weighs 43kg. At 800 × 722 × 428mm, it is best given a permanent or semi-permanent position rather than squeezed onto a small table.
This is the point we would think hardest about before buying. It can be moved, but its weight makes a permanent or wheeled setup far more appealing than carrying it out for every cook.
For a substantially lighter oven with generous working room, read our Ooni Koda 16 review.
Controls
Ooni Connect digital temperature hub. Remote temperature monitoring through the Ooni app.
Two precision control dials with instant ignition. The opening uses a removable glass visor. The connected temperature tools are one of the strongest reasons to choose this model over a simpler gas oven.
Fuel and heat
The Ooni Koda 2 Max runs on propane gas and is for outdoors only. Its maximum temperature is 500°C, with a controllable range of 100–500°C.
Heat comes from two independently controlled lateral gas burners. Gas keeps the learning curve short, although it removes live-fire fuel management.
The Ooni Karu 2 Pro review is the large-format alternative when live-fire flexibility outweighs dual-zone gas cooking.
Ownership
Assembly details are not yet available.
Powder-coated carbon steel body; stainless-steel interior, base and legs; borosilicate-glass visor. The registered warranty is 5 years. Register it as part of setup so the longer term is not forgotten.
Trade-offs
The footprint deserves careful measurement before buying. The gas-only design prioritises convenience over the involvement of a live wood fire.
Space, lifting weight and preferred fuel should settle the decision before smaller features do.
